Spanish 2 for high school students only; pre‐requisite Spanish 1. With increased Spanish discourse, elementary literature, and other collaborative opportunities, this class will further develop verbal fluency and grammatical understanding in a fun, engaging environment. Additional investigation of history, geography, and customs of Spanish‐speaking countries will aid in student's appreciation for and acumen of the language and culture. Approximately 1.5‐2 hours of weekly homework assignments will expand upon, reinforce, and solidify classroom learning.

Spanish 1

Spanish 1 will complete the full curriculum within the school year; it is recommended that students have a grasp of essential English grammar rules (parts of speech, verb tenses, etc.) prior to taking this class. Supplemented with music, games, role playing, and collaborative opportunities in the classroom, this class will balance verbal fluency with grammatical understanding in a fun, engaging environment.  Geography and cultural studies of Spanish-speaking countries will also be incorporated.

American Sign Language 3

The goal of this class is to immerse students into the language. We will learn some new things and expand and reinforce the skills we have already learned (such as maps, sequencing, and receptive comprehension). Students will work to comprehend material in ASL.

American Sign Language 1

This will be a two-part class. The first part is focused on the language. We will learn vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. This will be reinforced through games, activities, and projects. The second half is focused on deaf culture. We will learn about the values, rules, and traditions of their culture through film.

U.S. History After 1877/U.S. Government

History is fascinating because it tells the stories of real people and real events. We can learn from these people and events and choose how to move forward. This class will explore U.S. history from the period following Reconstruction to the present. Forensic Science

With today’s popular television programs about criminal justice and crime scene investigation and the surge of detective movies and books, students often have a passion for exploring forensic science.  In this course, students will combine math, chemistry, biology, physics, and earth science as they learn about the techniques used in forensic science. This class will balance extensive scientific concepts with hands-on classroom and lab activities, intriguing case studies, and careers in forensics.

Biology with Labs

This course covers botany, human anatomy and physiology, zoology, and cellular biology and genetics. It also includes chapters on ecology and evolution, and makes a great case for creation with specific facts that are confirmed throughout the book by looking at the intricate design of God’s creation. In class we will discuss the chapter and complete most of the labs in the lab book to aid in understanding of the material. The labs will include dissections of a sheep eye and heart, bullfrog, perch, starfish, crayfish, and earthworm.

Introduction to Chemistry and Physics

Art

Art Classes will be an exploration of the principles and elements of design, artists, techniques, and art history to inspire each students' personal creative style.  We will be working on two dimensional and three dimensional projects where we will be painting, drawing, making collages and mosaics, sculpting, and printmaking (just to name a few)! Students will use a great variety of mediums including water-based paints, papers, leather, wood, and more.

British Literature

This will be a survey of major works in British literature from Beowulf to the early 20th century. My goal for this class is for students to learn how to read well and engage thoughtfully with the material, and to enjoy literature! This is a low-stress approach that will allow students to gain confidence in reading intimidating texts. Students will have weekly reading assignments and must come to class prepared to discuss what they read. There will be short writing assignments that will allow students to demonstrate a thoughtful reading of the text.

Geometry

Geometry is the mathematical study of shapes.  In this course we will start with basic ideas about points, lines and planes.  From there, we’ll expand to polygons and circles and learn about perimeter and area.  Special emphasis will be given to triangles as we’ll study their angles with introductory trigonometry and we’ll learn about similarity and congruence with formal proofs.  We will compare the relationships between circles and intersecting lines.  3-D shapes will be introduced as well and a lot of time will be given to study formulas for volume and surface ar
