Swimming Creatures

Apologia’s second zoology book will take your student on an exploration into the wonders of the swimming creatures made on the fifth day of creation. We’ll begin with a big splash from the whales and dolphins, then spy on seals and meet manatees before swimming with the sea turtles, snakes, and salamanders. We will also learn about crustaceans, sea snails, clams, corals, and sea sponges.

In class, we will complete many experiments and activities to help students understand and remember their weekly reading assignments. We will create an Ocean Box diorama and add creatures to it throughout the year as we study them. Some of the experiments include trying on blubber, investigating a shark’s ability to sense electrical currents, exploring how whales can hear sounds that come from far away, and learning which creatures make the best fossils. No matter how near or far you live from the ocean, your students will wonder at God’s designs in the amazing aquatic animals He formed on the fifth day.
