Geometry is the mathematical study of shapes.  In this course we will start with basic ideas about points, lines and planes.  From there, we’ll expand to polygons and circles and learn about perimeter and area.  Special emphasis will be given to triangles as we’ll study their angles with introductory trigonometry and we’ll learn about similarity and congruence with formal proofs.  We will compare the relationships between circles and intersecting lines.  3-D shapes will be introduced as well and a lot of time will be given to study formulas for volume and surface area.  Many figures will be analyzed on the coordinate plane with emphasis on linear systems.  A scientific calculator is required.  Algebra 1 is highly recommended as a prerequisite.
