British Literature

This will be a survey of major works in British literature from Beowulf to the early 20th century. My goal for this class is for students to learn how to read well and engage thoughtfully with the material, and to enjoy literature! This is a low-stress approach that will allow students to gain confidence in reading intimidating texts. Students will have weekly reading assignments and must come to class prepared to discuss what they read. There will be short writing assignments that will allow students to demonstrate a thoughtful reading of the text.

Homework: Approx. 2-5 hours per week

Materials needed: Teacher will email a list of books to registered students during the summer. You may purchase these new or used. You may check books out from the library instead of purchasing them, but be aware that students may need some books for longer than a normal library check-out period.
