Biology

This class will cover high school biology topics: Cells, DNA, protein replication, osmosis/diffusion, dissections, ecology, carbon and nitrogen cycles, using a microscope, classification, etc. The goal is to provide the student with a broad introduction to science as it pertains to living organisms and give them the background needed to succeed in a college level biology course.

Labs will be conducted in class with a lab partner.  Homework will be collected weekly and tests will be conducted every other module (there are 16 total for the year), with grades posted quarterly.

Materials needed: Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Biology, 3rd Edition

About the teacher:  April Fortner graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a minor in chemistry from the University of Arkansas. She served 2 years in an organic chemistry lab on campus assisting in the production of new cancer treatments. She taught physics labs at the university during graduate school. She homeschooled her 4 children all the way through, and the oldest two are in college.  She has experience teaching teens in co-ops, in classes, and tutoring for math, science, and German.  She’s excited to share her love of science with your student!
