Algebra 1

This is a high school credit course for Algebra I. Some of the topics covered this year will be: evaluation of expressions, exponents and roots, properties of real numbers, absolute value, equations and inequalities involving absolute value, scientific notation, unit conversions, solution of equations, polynomials and rational expressions, graphs of a variety of functions: linear, quadratic, cubic, square root, absolute value, etc.,translations and reflections of graphs, factoring, Pythagorean theorem, algebraic proofs, functional notation and functions, direct and inverse variation, solution of quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, quadratic formula, and more!

Materials needed:  Holt McDougal Algebra 1 2012 edition ISBN 978-0547647036, graph paper, ruler and TI 84 graphing calculator.

Sarah Pool earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education with a specialty in mathematics from Southwestern University. She taught 5 years in the Richardson ISD. After retiring from teaching in the public school, she spent the next 25 years homeschooling her 5 children and working as a private math tutor. She is currently the Algebra 2 teacher at Denton Calvary Academy.
