Elementary American Sign Language

Younger students will be introduced to American Sign Language using a series called Story Time with Signs and Rhymes. We will learn vocabulary for food, family, colors and many more along with fun in class activities.

Latin- First Year

Learning Latin is like gaining a superpower!  Latin will expand your English vocabulary as well as help you with learning romance languages like Spanish and French.  It will connect you with our ancient Western heritage.  It will open your eyes to all of the Latin words and phrases we are surrounded with every day--only now you'll understand them!  Plus, it's fun!  This class will be an introduction to the Latin language as well as the history and culture of ancient Rome.  Students will have the opportunity to take the National Junior Classical League's yearly

Beginning Writing IEW

Students will learn beginning writing skills including note-making, summarizing, and retelling narrative stories.  We will be using the Institute for Excellence in Writing's theme based book Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales Writing Lessons.  This  method helps demystify the writing process so that students learn step by step exactly what to write and how to write it.

Chemistry and Ecology for Middle School

This class begins with a study of our world's various ecosystems and identifying scientific properties and biochemistry found in each.  Next, the study will focus on atoms, molecules, and properties of matter with hands-on activities/experiments to grow in understanding of acids, bases, the periodic table of elements, chemical reactions, and the scientific method.

Zoology1: Flying Creatures 5th day

In this zoology course, we will study the many creatures that fill our skies, from backyard birds to exotic species, from the towering ostrich to the tiny gnat.  Students will begin with lessons on the taxonomy system and binomial nomenclature to understand how and why zoologists must classify species.  We will then explore topics such as the fundamentals of flight, bird anatomy/physiology and identifying field markings, nesting and hatching, bird migration, and even flying reptiles and insects.

Art

Art Classes will be an exploration of the principles and elements of design, artists, techniques, and art history to inspire each students' personal creative style.  We will be working on two dimensional and three dimensional projects where we will be painting, drawing, making collages and mosaics, sculpting, and printmaking (just to name a few)! Students will use a great variety of mediums including water-based paints, papers, leather, wood, and more.
