Title: Summer Pre-Algebra Math Review Workshop

Date/Day: August 13-17, 2018 (Monday - Friday)

Time(s): 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Cost: $80

One Time Registration: $10 Per Student, $15 Per Family

Description:  This course is for students who have completed a pre-algebra course and are preparing to start Algebra 1 in the fall. Over the course of the summer, students may have forgotten some of the math they were taught the previous school year. This will be a refresher course that prepares students for Algebra 1. During this week-long class, students will review pre-algebra basics like prime numbers, the metric system, graphs, algebraic terms and phrases, permutations and more.

Materials Needed:  paper, pencils

About the Teacher:  David Headley - David was homeschooled his entire life and excelled at math.  He is currently working toward his bachelor’s degree in mathematics.  He is excited to help other students understand math and overcome their frustration with the subject.  David is also offering tutoring services throughout the summer.

Description: This course is for students who are going into a pre-algebra class. Over the course of the summer, students may have forgotten a lot of math that they learned the previous school year. Description: This is a middle school course for Algebra 1/2. Some of the topics covered will include: integers, fractions, decimals, negative numbers, factorization, simple integer roots and powers, brackets, parenthesis, graphing the coordinate plane, geometry (area, volume) and so much more.

Materials Needed: Saxon Algebra 1/2 3rd Edition text and solutions manual (available at HER Store), notebook paper, pencil, ruler, protractor, and compass.

Description:  A foundation for geometry is laid through the introduction of undefined terms, definitions, and incidence theorems. Subsets, segments, and measurements are covered. Logic is introduced as a basis for proofs. There topics covered are area, circles, angles, space, volume, transformations and symmetry, and similarity. Students learn to make constructions with straightedge and compass.

Materials Needed:  Saxon Geometry Text and Solutions Manual (available at the HER Store), loose-lease paper, binder, graph paper, compass, protractor, ruler, calculator, pencil, and colored pencils.

Description:  This is a high school credit course for Algebra II. Some of the topics covered this year will be: graphical solution of simultaneous equations, scientific notation, radicals, roots of quadratic equations including complex roots, properties of real numbers, factoring, inequalities and systems of inequalities, logarithms and antilogarithms, conic sections, exponential equations, basic trigonometric functions, algebra of polynomials, vectors in polar and rectangular form, algebraic word problems and more. 

Materials Needed:  Saxon Algebra II 3rd edition text book and solutions manual (available at HER Store), pencil, notebook paper, ruler, protractor, compass, and TI-84 Plus calculator.
